WordPress is basically this,
A website or content management system that gives you complete control of the look and feel of a professional business or personal blog online.
It’s a user-friendly platform, that gives you and me every functionality and ability, to really customize a website the way we want.
Many successful internet marketers, e-commerce shops, entrepreneurs and large businesses, by the millions, have already used this amazing online platform.
For the beginners out here, there will be a bit of a learning curve that actually has to do with the user-interface or back office structure of W.P.
Absolutely nothing to do with having knowledge of HTML coding or programming so don’t worry, I am here to help.
Little History Won’t Hurt Nobody
In 2003, this wonder we call WordPress started as a publishing or blogging tool to enhance the way people displayed articles or posts on a website.
It’s an “open-source” software which means, that all HTML code is freely used and is customizable by a community of volunteers worldwide.
Talented programmers have added thousands of extra functionalities and abilities to accommodate this powerful publishing platform called plug-ins or widgets.
We will cover plug-ins and widgets later, cause this powerful feature alone, really transforms a site into pretty much whatever we can imagine building digitally.
WordPress.com Vs WordPress.org | Diversity Please
There are actually two different kinds of platforms to use and this is vital to understand for readers.
This allows anyone to sign up for a Free W.P. website that WordPress will host on their servers.
You officially DO NOT own the website, giving full rights to them to shut it down if they see fit.
Also, you are limited on the personal customization and feel of the website as a whole. You have little control….
If you wanted to build a carpenters business website calling it Guns And Hoses. Your URL address would be: www.GunsAndHoses.wordpress.com
Also, just to mention, sites like Blogger, Ghost, or even Tumblr, are the same style of blogs, giving them, not you, full ownership of your writings.
You are controlled, bottling up your flavor or personality in return.
This site lets you download your very own copy of WordPress for FREE.
Then you go upload this file to your OWN hosting servers, giving you full ownership of your website.
If building that same carpenters website, here’s what the address would look like: www.GunsAndHoses.com
It does cost to host your website but were talking five to ten dollars a month for hosting, giving you full rights to some virtual property you can call home.
We will get into hosting and domain names at a later time. For now, just look at this like renting a house or owning one…
You are limited on what you can do in the rental and can get kicked out when they need the house. Owning one, you have complete control of the property…
Consumed By Millions Seen By Tens Of Millions Daily
WordPress is the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world. Here are some facts and stats, that make this truly shine above the rest:
As of August 2013, WordPress is used by more than 18.9% of the top ten million sites online.
Of all the websites being built that use C.M.S. software’s more than 50% use WordPress.
On Google alone, there are 30,000,000 searches each month on WordPress related terms.
It’s a worldwide platform, localized in 73 languages, offered in over hundred countries.
Over 75 million sites depend on it cause it’s the best on the planet.
With thousands of premium themes and plugins available, adding personality and professionalism to the equation, we don’t need to look any further for what’s the best choice.
When it comes to blogging platforms, I wouldn’t choose any other… AND I almost forgot to mention, Justin Beamer owns one…
Just don’t make you’res look fake…
Ouch, I will pray later…
Here’re just a few mega businesses that shine on WordPress websites across our globe:
WALL STREET JOURNAL
You get the point but if you don’t here’s the mega list…
The numbers and stats change by the thousands daily and WordPress is by far the most downloaded and used.
This is why I focus on one platform at a time.
Plus, if you’re just starting out here, why give yourself more headaches than you already have?
You don’t need to do any research or waste a bunch of time looking for other virtual writing platforms.
Take your time and learn how to function online with this platform, cause if you fight reality too long, it all starts catching up to you,
ask the Beamer boy….
Features That Don’t Quit And Won’t Cost A Cent
Now that we established what this amazing software is and the big wigs that already use it, let’s look at the unlimited ways to transform a website into a personal masterpiece.
Well, it starts with the 30,000 plug-ins within the WordPress Plugin Directory and the scores of theme template available at your fingertips.
Plug-ins and widgets, are little pieces of software, that you download, changing the features and functions of the site.
Things like the S.E.O. structure, controlling the spam war by keeping it off your site or just sharing content on social media channels.
I will start with the basics, so we can keep spammers out, optimizing content just became simple and fun, and a giant Swiss knife plug-in to boot. These four choices are just common sense if you think about it.
With the issues we still have a comment or backtrack spamming, this plug-in smashes all spam 99.9% of the time, even when your sleeping.
- Keeps history of all spam that it catches so you can see what is happening within your site.
- Highlights link on comment box to show any hidden or spammy links.
Every website should use this or some kind of spam smasher. Spam is a virus and needs to be booted off Mother Nature’s Earth. This helps that cause.
This add-on is something special, kind of like a Swiss knife. It’s like one plug-in, having thirty-two different features built into it. For instance, social media sharing or related posts to help people find info faster, blog subscription form to build connection and community. Here’s a short list of some others:
- Displays related posts and articles
- Proofreading service
- Real time backup and security
- Beautiful Math
- Google Plus Profile
- Contact Form
- Widget Visibility
And so on and so fore…. Benefits, you say? How about a list of them:
- Helps with time-on-site, people staying longer
- Collects subscribers for you, can’t live without this virtually
- Connecting with social media channels, mingling is prohibited
- Gravatar Hover cards, don’t leave home without it
- Has short link creator, amazingness.
- Spelling and grammar checker, what you mean, fool!!
Let’s just say there is a lot that goes with it, but don’t forget, the cost is nothing.
A personal favorite, this one cleans up your website database, helping visitors get to your site faster.
Delete post revisions, spammy comments in the queue, or any other junk that slows down your site’s loading time, which is very important.
The average time people visit a website is between 2-5 seconds.
Our attention span is short and sweet, so keep your site, fast and durable.
After each day, when I am done tinkering with my website, I will completely clean up after myself with this plug-in. It creates a smooth experience for my visitors.
This search engine specialist is just perfect, for getting compelling content, ready to be presented to the web.
WordPress is built optimize friendly, out of the box, but S.E.O by Yoast extends this.
Helps with organizing your efforts into one place, saving time and really accomplishing visibility for your content, so people can find it.
With no cost to you again, this little guy extends your ability to optimize your website for people first, search engines second.
Premium Themes Vs. Free Themes
Note To The Wise- Be very careful when you receive a free theme from a person or individual, that you barely know or communicate with.
People put little codes inside these themes, completely messing up sites, having to trash the whole site, when it was all said and done. Keep your eyes open…
You get what you pay for digitally…
Now, I am not knocking free WordPress themes because I haven’t seen them all, that would be impossible.
The ones I have seen, some are cool on the eyeballs but just like eyes, you practically see what you get.
Second, free is free, so the price is right but limited freedom becomes a factor.
You do not have access to all the plug-in options or functionality that premium themes are equipped with.
Your persona or personality becomes trapped with limitations.
I would rather spend the money on something so vital to my presence online.
Depending on which theme you choice, will determine the extra functionalities that certain themes provide, for a website.
From special plugins or widget areas, landing pages for your business or functionalities that just don’t quit, purchased themes are extremely important for eye candy, cause that first impression, is dozy to the visitors.
Special Thanks To You
