What are some good business practices online to build a presence if you don’t know where to start?
Do I need a professional website presence or can I get away without one?
I have so many choices to build on, what kind of platforms and softwares will help me learn the curve?
As questions like this pop up in your head, just know that:
- Yes you need a website and blog to survive online.
- Ummm, you also need to manage it daily, updated regularly, and tweaked to define the user experience you want for your customers.
- Plus it can be learned so you can manage it yourself..
What most folks don’t get is it takes patience, work, and habit to become successful online.
Not the next business opportunity, or flashy software to blast emails, nope not at all..
What You Already Should Know
At this point, the elements that should be locked into your DNA (business DNA if any) is:
- Your market that you want to dominate,
- The specific customer that is ready to buy NOW
- Personal Branding such as logo, Tagline, value proposition, the direction you want to go.
- Strategies and Planning on how to grow your business
- That burning passion you want to tell the world about.
These few are a good start, but as your business grows, so does your knowledge base, strategies, and the way to want your brand to move forward with.
The Curve Of Learning
There is a learning curve when starting any business, online or not.
And the learning curve dont just stop there, if you really want to get into this, realize that this process is an moving target.
Meaning you will never stop learning cause it changes day to day, or week to week.
Heres afew you need to understand before we start:
Functioning with your WordPress Website is one..
Creating a online sale funnel with Aweber or any other email marketing platform you use.
Configuring WordPress Plug Ins, Themes for design, social media intergration, just to name afew..
A strong SEO strategy that helps your audience find you and search engines resepeect you.
You have to interact, or atleast share and comment, be involved on social media.
Not the approach that most marketers take;
share, share, share, and than leave the conversation to thew wolves..
Like I said earlier, theres work to do, a patience in creating and learning the curve, simply what you put in is what you will get.
Another thing we need to keep an eye on is the “new” softwares, platforms or opportunities that really and truly sounds good but in the end,
money hungry thieves is what they breed.
When I first started out, this is what I got caught into.
For about a year..
And all mentors will tell ya, theres a time or two they even slip and the online monsters grip.
So don’t feel bad if your sitting in that stage now.
What cleared it all up for me is afew things to focus on:
- Stop focusing on money, that’s whats holding you up.
- Find that passion on what you are good at, already know, and set steps to start there.
- Finding a like minded community to get advice, ask questions or just to connect with in that industry.
- A true mentor that shows you step by step how to build, brand and manage a website/blog.
- You have to find patience to learn and react, also money don’t grow on trees, so folks need to believe you before you stick your hand out.
- Giving all you got in one business idea is better than being scattered round the web..
Here are the 13 online strategies that will start building success for your business.
Domain and Hosting
The domain name is what your customer will see first, so make this real good.
In the old days, folks would stuff keywords into this name to think they would rank better.
In the year 2016 and beyond, this is just not true at all.
What we want to do is, make it short as possible, 35 charactors or so, and Brandable.
No numbers, or !@#$%$%^&** of that..
Example, which one do you trust if you seen this on Google:
One looks cheezy, the other atleasts looks presentable.
Who’s Hosting your website?
I prefer to separate my domain from my hosting, only for one reason.
Go Daddy is a domain seller and that’s what their good at, they don’t specialist in hosting them.
GatorHost gives a place for secure websites to breath online, and they specialist in this field, so they pure all thier energy in that.
Instead of spreading thin across the board.
Host Gator has the best Customer service on the planet, just saying.
WordPress is the best CMS on the planet
A third of all websites online use this platform.
Big brands like Nike, TedTalks and NFL build their brands on WP as well.
Flexiblity, functionality and user friendly atmosphere is what WordPress presents.
If you want to keep the learning curve down, when beginning, than use and function with the best.
Why shatter the brain with trying to learn multiple CMS platforms at once?
Just focus on one that works, and then learn the others as you grow.
Choosing a Website Premuim Theme
Free themes are just that, free.
I won’t knock them cause I’ve seen beautiful sites built on free themes so that does work for some folks.
What made the difference with me is as soon as I bought a professional theme, I noticed a difference in look, feel, and design, which made my site stick out from the crowd.
Plus these premium themes come with built in plug ins that help lead generation, Tag design, Social Media Sharing…
I use StudioPress myself, which you have plenty of options here, so choose wisely.
First rule of thumb, don’t overload your site with these mini software add-ons for wordpress.
Keep the number around 10-15 and only the ones that help the visitor.
Heres a list of five of my favorites:
SEO By Yoast
Complete SEO set up for all search engines.
You can set up social media sharing, add descriptions to categories and tags, just gives you an overall plan to establish a good start with optimization.
Broken Link Checker
Checks for links that don’t work and gives you an option to send them to a certain page automatically if there is an error.
Lead generation, image sharing, pop ups, stroll down boxes, this one is free and amazing to work with.
These one hads all kinds of add-ons, which isnt free, but the free version is super amazing.
Completely cleans up site from old data, unsaved data, and just whatever else that slows down websites.
WP Fastest Cache
Have you made any changes but don’t see the change?
Well pop this one open, and clean up the old data to present the new.
It wipes out all changes made to a static page or blog post, across the website.
Theres a ton more, but use these just to get started with creating that online presence your driving for.
It’s Mandatory you start a Blog Roll
This one is a must or you will not last online for long..
Creating valuable driven content that helps, inspires and gives action is what your customers want from you.
Also earns your company ranking ablilities on Google and other search engines for certain keyword phrases or topics you write about.
Inbound Marketing is a strategy that needs your attention weekly, if not daily.
Not saying you have to write something every day, just know you have to keep your business online, relelvant, popular, and alive, instead of stale like Myspace or Blockbuster..
Can folks see it on small screens?
Mobile responsive sites are a must have in 2016..
Google made it SEO factor just afew yeasr ago..
Nearly 70% of all searches on Google, are made from small or mobile friendly devices.
Keep this one mind when you think traffic to your site and how customers are gonna react to your design when searching on phones or labtops. Very important optimization factor.
Overall SEO plan for your new Website
What are you trying to present to your visitors, and the search engines?
What does the world need to know what your business is about, who is it for and how to get more insights?
My SEO plan for MudChopsMedia is this..
The main keyword Phrase I want to rank for is Florida’s Digital Media Consultant Services.
This is my main “theme” for my business.
I manage professional online practices and strategies for small local business wanting social media management, website design or blog and meeting their bottom line, making visitors believers, into trusted loyal customers.
So, what would I blog about, or what other words or phrases can I earn respect for?
Heres just afew:
Search Engine Optimization
How to build, brand and ,manage a professional online practice.
Video Marketing tips and tricks
Email Marketing the right way
WordPress Website Designs
Just acouple ideas, than you can break down topics into blog posts like,
“10 Tips on how to optimize videos on YouTube?”
“How to set up Tags and Categories on WordPress?”
Try these beginner Strategies for optimizing your content?”
And so on and so forth…
You shouldn’t run out of ideas about what to write about. Find interesting topics around the web, take a new spin on it, and run with it.
You know your business better than anyone, so go write.
What are your Onsite/Offsite practices?
SEO is a moving target so it isn’t a guaranteed result.
You have to earn your spot onsite and off?
Onsite SEO meaning tactics that the webmaster controls to give your content, your website, the nest ablility to rank and search your targeted audience.
Offsite SEO meaning all tactics that you do off your website .
Social media profiles, forums and directory sites, video channels and the rest, these are your distribution channels to spread your brand, that leads them back to the main hub…your online presence..
Don’t forget stuff like merchandise, flyers, and business cards…
I know it really doesn’t have much to do with SEO, but if people see your logo, where do you think they will visit online,
How are you building trust and authority, so they will believe you to buy?
This will cost you alittle money too, but well worth it.
Aweber is my favorite Email Marketing Platform but you have a litter to pick from, just do some research when you choice one.
You and I have heard it, the money is in the list…
Depending on how you treat the readers.
Start out by sending a thank you email, and give them your free offer..
Than over a span of time, send new and interesting posts, maybe discounts or free ebooks, and just keep them relelvant on whats going on in your business world.
What is your free offer?? Or A Lead Magnet…
This is something that you give away in return for an email address.
Examples are 14 day trial offer, membership for a month, first chapter of an book or Ebooks, Whitepapers, and a video series..
This opens the door to a one on one channel so all distractions of life are off the table.
Don’t scare them away by spamming or blasting them two, three emails a day..
Just give relevant content, blog post or a How to series that helps with a problem or desire.
Do you have social media mingling coming and going to your website?
Social Linking is the new back linking practice, my opinion that is.
Earn social influence by sharing others crafty content and most likely they woill share yours..
What I do is, when I come to any media channel, I go find some good reads, share them, maybe comment, and than I share my blog post on my social channels.
Also, don’t forget that theres communities of folks talking about what you are, so share in afew of them as well.
Groups, dissuccissions, these little blogging forums, just gives you more reach in other places.
Are you taking a multimedia approach to creating content?
Is not just important you are writing, you also need to maybe think prepurpose the content..
Create a 3-9 min video speaking on what you just wrote about.
Maybe a podcast about further tips and tricks..
How about taking all them main points and creating infographics, or whitepapers to give away for free in return for that golden email address.
You see, theres not just one approach to creating content, theres a ton of different ways to present it.
Do what you are comfortable with, optimize your work, and publish that as well.
To create some good business practices online for your business, takes these steps and act on them.
I promise they won’t hurt your identity.
Readers or customers deserve and demand a well arounded media approach to what they want online.
With all the tools, platforms, strategies and practices we can ceate for them, it shouldn’t be a problem if you really want to go out there and create it for them.
The folks online have every resource at the finges tips to find out the who, what, when and where, of any business on the planet.
If you don’t give them a reason, a purpose or an incentive to visit, they won’t.
The best part the whole process of building, branding, and managing an online business, is you have total freedom to create and distribute content the way you want.
Total control and freedom to create what you want.
Use these steps to start a strategy to give your readers what they want.
Real, raw words that speaks to them, makes them smile and leaves with a happy ending..
Thanks for listening..
